Projects - Starting a Sub-Project
A new project can be created as a sub-project to an
existing project. This displays the sub-project at a
hierarchy level below the original project as a parent-child
relationship. This creates a dependency such that the parent
project will remain open until all of its tasks and its
sub-project's tasks are closed. Sub-projects are a convenient
tool to group related projects.
A sub-project can also be started as an action to
a task or project.
To create a sub-project from the Projects screen do the
following:
- Access the Projects screen (tab).
- From the Departments tree control list in the left pane
of the screen, select the specific department for the
existing project.
- From the projects display in the right pane of the
screen, select the project that will have a
sub-project.
- Click on the "Start Sub-project" toolbar icon.
- The Start Project
screen in displayed. Follow the directions for starting a project.
- Select the method of assigning a Primary contact.
Choose from either "Same as current project", "Select an
individual", or "Select department/group".
- Click the OK button to start the sub-project.
- The Projects screen is displayed and includes the new
sub-project. All tasks that are associated with the
sub-project are included on either the Inbox or Group
Inbox, as determined by task assignment.
You can also set up templates to kick off another project
when the project is started from these templates. If you want
to be able to tie back to the general project in a
sub-project there are tokens available to put in the
sub-project template to give you this information. Select
these from the tokens list that appears when you click on the
tokens icon in the project name or description. When the
sub-project is started from the general project, the program
will automatically populate this information when the tokens
have been inserted.
