Projects - Start Project Screen
Normal View
The Start Project Screen's Normal View is divided into two
panes and allows you to start a project by using a predefined
template.
The upper pane includes all existing project templates for
the departments that comprise your workforce. Clicking on a
template shows its description in the lower pane. To start
a project from a template, click on the template then click
the OK button. You can also start a project by
double-clicking on a template.
To switch between the Normal View and Advanced View, use the
combo box in the upper-right corner of the Start Project
Screen.
Advanced View
The Start Project Screen's Advanced View is divided into two
panes and allows you to start a project by using a predefined
template or from scratch.
The left pane includes all existing project templates for the
departments that comprise your workforce. To select a
template, first choose a department by selecting from the
first pull-down menu in the left pane. Then choose the
template from the second pull-down menu. Once you select the
template, you will see each task and action in the left pane.
Select a template on this list to display its details in the
right pane of the screen.
The project or template detail area, the right pane, includes
the individual screens (tabs) for project or template detail
data input. By default, the Start Project screen opens to the
General tab.
The details that comprise a project or template consist of
the following:
- General tab - the General tab of the Start Project
screen collects the project name and description, the due
date and time, and the perpetual project election.
(required)
- General tab - the Project Tasks area of the General tab
of the Start Project screen collects the details for any
tasks associated with the project. (required)
- Documents/Related Items tab - the Documents/Related
Items tab collects the designated related contacts and
related files for the project and allows you to establish
padlock security permissions.
- Action Scheduler tab - the Action Scheduler tab
collects details for any actions associated with the
project.
- Budget Information tab - the Budget Information tab
collects project expense item input.
- Progress Notes tab - the Progress Notes collects notes
and comments about the project.
If starting a project from scratch you will need to enter the
project information in the tabs discussed above. If starting
a project from a project template you can view the
pre-defined template information in the tabs. Template
information can be modified in these tabs before clicking the
OK button to start the project.
Starting a project using a pre-defined project template means
that you choose to use a template that already contains the
details, tasks, actions, and other associated work for the
project. The work is already done for you. Pre-defined
templates can be modified.
Starting a project from scratch means that while in the Start
Project screen you choose to enter all of the details, tasks,
actions, and other associated work for the project. You
design the workflow process from start to finish--from
scratch.
Click OK to start a project
The Start Project Screen can be considered a work area for
the interim step between a project template and an active
project. Any new or modified template information that you
enter in the project template detail area (right pane) of the
screen does not become part of an actual project until you
click the OK button.
